WELCOME TO TABALUGA GUESTHOUSE
ROADEș
Our exclusive and cosy Guesthouse Tabaluga is located in the Romanian village of Roades in Transylvania, approx. 40 km from Sighisoara, surrounded by a unique and unspoilt landscape.
Rock musician Peter Maffay discovered the picturesque village with its impressive church fortress during a trip through his native country Romania in 2008. At the time, Roades had been largely affected by emigration, unemployment and poverty. Since then, the Peter Maffay Foundation has tapped into the huge potential of the region and has actively helped to revive and reactivate the old village of Roades. And, the prevailing conditions simply couldn’t be better: the idyllic scenery, the largely conserved traditional village structures and lots of unspoilt nature. It is the Foundation’s utmost aim to improve the village’s infrastructure and to create conditions for locals and visitors, children and adults of all nationalities, ethnic groups and religions to feel at ease and encounter each other open-mindedly.
In close vicinity to the historical church fortress, the Peter Maffay Foundation has built a holiday home for children. Since 2011, traumatized children from Romania and abroad have been able to spend therapeutic vacations there. It is only one of the Foundation’s four holiday homes – further facilities are located in Spain (Mallorca) and Germany (Jägersbrunn and Dietlhofen/Bavaria). In Roades, however, the Foundation’s efforts go much further, embracing the whole village, while the focus always lies on the children. Numerous partners, such as Martine & Bertram Pohl Foundation, Volkswagen, Prof. Hans Georg Näder (CEO Otto Bock HealthCare) or BayWa Foundation have supported the Peter Maffay Foundation and have helped to develop a multitude of activities in the village houses, among them a health centre, an adventure farm, a carpenter’s workshop and a hall for various cultural events. Our guesthouse is also one of these projects, originally planned to host therapists, tutors of children’s groups and guests of the founda-tion. For that purpose, an old, traditional house has been modernized to become our main building. The adjoining barn was torn down and replaced by six modern apartments. Depending on availability, they are now also being rented out to tourists and visitors interested in our foundation work.
Visit us in Roades and become inspired by Romania’s unique culture and landscape.
We will be happy to welcome you!
